Filament is the admin panel and application builder for Laravel: describe resources with PHP classes and get tables with search, filters and bulk actions, forms with validation, dashboards, and notifications, production-quality interfaces without writing frontend code.

Why founders use it: every product grows an internal surface, ops tools, support views, data cleanup, and building them twice, once for users, once for staff, sinks small teams. Filament makes the second one nearly free, a resource class per model and the admin exists, themed, localized, tested. Whole commercial products are built as Filament panels with a plugin ecosystem covering charts, media and file management.

A realistic use: a Filament resource over the orders table with scoped visibility for support staff, actions for refunds that call the gateway, and a dashboard widget set for the morning numbers. Time from schema to internal tool: an afternoon.

Trade-offs: the panels are Laravel-shaped, so the frontend vocabulary is Filament's, and highly bespoke interfaces eventually want custom Blade work. Compare with Nova for the older paid tradition, Backpack for CRUD-first ergonomics, and Laravel's own starter kits when auth pages are the need.
